Jason has Level III and Park Instructor CASI certifications with the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors, and has NCCP certification with the Coaching Association of Canada.

SNOWBOARD STUDENT PROGRAMS

Regular 2 hour snowboard lessons are available for all levels, from beginner to expert, as part of your Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday day trip package. Cost is included in your membership fee. Lessons run each day from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 and will be available for 10 weeks beginning Saturday January 7, 2012. Check the day trip schedule for the listing of destinations.

You will be placed in a small group of boarders of similar ability. In addition to our Specialized Clinics, the NTSC snowboard school offers regular classes for never- evers, beginners, novices, intermediates, advanced and experts. (see student ability levels below)

If you want to try snowboarding for the first time, we will help you through the rental shop, guide you to suitable safe terrain, help you through those first exciting moments on snow and get you happily through the morning.

If you've already boarded, but are looking to have fun improving your riding, we offer lessons for all abilities. We will help you learn to balance, slide, turn, carve, play in the moguls, try the half pipe, catch some air, stomp some rails, race gates and have a great time. Our instructors are there to guide you while you discover the joys of snowboarding using a progressive approach.

NTSC Snowboard School Student Ability Levels

Beginner

  • Never Ever:
    First time rider, never been on a board before and keen to try!
  • Beginner:
    Had a lesson or two, learning to turn on green runs.

Novice

  • Novice:
    Can turn on green runs with control.
  • Advanced Novice:
    Completely comfortable on green runs. Starting to ride blue runs.

Intermediate

  • New Intermediate:
    Can ride most blue runs, with conservative speed.
  • Intermediate:
    Enjoys all blue runs.

Advanced Intermediate

  • Aggressively rides blue runs with speed and control. Slides down some Ontario black diamond runs!

Advanced

  • New Advanced:
    Comfortable on groomed black diamond runs at a moderate speed.
  • Advanced:
    Rides groomed black diamond runs with speed and control. Rides the moguls at moderate speed.
  • Expert:
    Rides all black diamond terrain.

SNOWBOARD SCHOOL APPRENTICE PROGRAM

If you are interested to experience what it is like to be an instructor or if would like to train for certification with the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (C.A.S.I.) - this is the program for you!

As a snowboard student of advanced ability, you will shadow our NTSC instructors during our morning lessons and get hands-on experience that will help you train for the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (C.A.S.I.) 1 certification.

Please note that NTSC has a number of successful graduates of this program who successfully passed the C.A.S.I. 1 course, and are currently teaching with the club!!!

Using a safe and progressive approach, this clinic is for snowboarders who are new to entering the Snowboard Park or Half Pipe. During this clinic, you will learn the commonly accepted park etiquette and rules , how to inspect and identify the features in the park (eg. Half pipe, jumps, rails, boxes, spines, etc), where to stop, how to 'drop in', basic principles for hitting features, and the proper speed to hit the features.

This clinic is for snowboarders who would like to rip the moguls. We will cater to those who have never entered a mogul field before, and to those who are seasoned veterans. In this clinic we will explore skills like how to "double up", "gap" a mogul, ride using the corridor approach, or ride using the tornado approach.

In this clinic, we will use a progressive approach to learn the skills needed to ride the Half-Pipe properly. Learn the different parts of the half-pipe, how to take a proper inspection run, how to 'drop in', how to ride the walls, and eventually how to catch some air above the coping.

In this clinic we will teach snowboarders of various ability levels to race downhill through a set of gates. We will teach you how to improve your time by taking the best 'line'. Come out for our annual 'Race Day' competition vs. High Park Ski Club on Saturday February 26, 2011 where medals will be awarded for ALL ABILITY levels in the male and female categories.
