Holiday Wonderland Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Holiday Wonderland Party going to be?
This year the party will be at The Drake Hotel’s Sky Yard. The Drake Hotel is located at 1150 Queen Street W.

How much will it cost?
For members, it’s $50 and for guests it’s $60.

Is this a private party?
From 8pm the Drake Hotel’s beautiful Sky Yard will be an NTSC-only zone. There will be a guest list, but also be sure to bring your ticket to gain access to the Drake and then to the Sky Yard.

I hear that the party is going to be outside. Is it going to be cold? What if there’s a blizzard?
This is pretty novel. Yes, part of the party is going to be “al fresco” aka outside. The newly renovated and fully winterized Sky Yard rooftop patio is complete with heated floors, an outdoor fire pit and “Shack Chaud”, serving hot bevies such as hot apple cider with your liquor of preference. There is a small indoor area, but the idea is to be with the rest of the group and have an adventure. Blankets will also be provided for those who are especially chill-challenged.

Cash bar or open bar?
This is a cash bar event.

What should I wear?
This is a holiday party so try to make it a little special. Dress-to-impress, but bring a shawl or sweater if you’re worried about being cold. Guys, wear your smart pants and a nice shirt or sweater. Ladies, a nice pair of dress jeans and a nice top too. For those who really want to dress it up, feel free to wear a skirt with tights, some sexy boots, and your best holiday top.

Will there be a DJ? Will there be dancing?
There won’t be a DJ, but there will be dancing. The City of Toronto has recently placed restrictions on bands and DJs on the Drake rooftop patio. But do not fear!! The majority of events on the Drake’s Sky Yard rely on their extensive menu of playlists that span a range of genres and artists. The folks at the Drake have created a playlist especially for our event!

Will I be fed? Should I eat dinner?
Yes, you will be fed, but this is not a sit down dinner. There will be a selection of “comfort foods” that will be served throughout the night. Some of what to expect on the night: Soul Food Fried Chicken Fingers, Mini Drake Burger with Carmelized Onions, Cheddar & Garlic Aioli, Mini Mac & Cheese, Mini Creamy Tomato Soup Shooter + Grilled Cheese Fingers, dessert treats and more!

Are there tables, i.e. can we sit together as a group or is it more cocktail-style?
This is more cocktail-style, but there are tables and chairs set up here and there.

How do I get home after the event?
We want everyone to be safe so if you decide to drink, please don’t drive. There is the Queen streetcar. You can take the Dufferin Bus. There are also cabs that can get you where you need to go.

I don’t want to go home. Can I stay at the Drake?
If you’d like to make a night of it, there are 19 rooms available at the Drake with room rates starting at $189 per night. You can call The Drake directly, if you would like to make reservations at (416) 531-5042.

Will I have fun?
It’s up to you to bring the fun! Come ready to party!!

New Members Mix‘n Mingle and Orientation Session, Wednesday, December 9th

Walking into a General Social or getting on a ski bus for the first time and seeing a sea of faces that you don’t know can be a little intimidating, even for the most outgoing, gregarious person. We recognize that, because we’ve all been through it. So, as our way of trying to help you ease into the club, we’ve been organizing a new members meet and mingle reception for the past few years. This is your opportunity to get out and meet your fellow new members!

You probably also have a bunch of questions about the club, such as how to book and pay for day trips, what to expect on a typical day trip, how to know which bus to get on (the buses ARE numbered for a reason:), how to find the lessons, what to expect in a lesson; what to wear on the bus in the morning and what to expect on an Après trip.

The answers to these and many more questions will all be covered at the New Member Mix ‘n mingle and Orientation session taking place at Whistler’s Restaurant on Wednesday, December 9th. The reception starts at 6:00 pm and we’ll run a very informal 45 minute orientation session starting at 7:15 to give you lots of time afterwards to chat with your new fellow NTSCers.

Whistler’s, located at 995 Broadview, is accessible by TTC from the Broadview subway station. Tel: 416-421-1344
